New analog-based power management controller withintegrated microcontroller
Combine the flexibility and I2C communication of digital DC/DCpower conversion, with the speed, performance and resolution ofanalog-based control, by using Microchip’s new MCP19111 power management controller.
The MCP19111 is a new hybrid, mixed-signal controller which combines analog and digital power management into a single chip. By integrating an analog-based PWM controller, a Flash-based 8-bit PIC® microcontroller,and MOSFET drivers for synchronous, step-down applications, the MCP19111 enables configurable, high-efficiency power conversion.
With transient performance of analog power conversion, the MCP19111 eliminates the need for a high-MIPS microcontroller or a high-speed A/D converter, minimising solution cost and power consumption.
To support even higher efficiency, the MCP19111 can be used to drive Microchip’s latest MCP87xxx high-speed, SMPS-optimised MOSFETs. These logic-level 25V MOSFETs offer a low Figure of Merit (FOM) with on-state resistance from 1.8 mΩ to 13 mΩ to deliver higher DC/DC power conversion efficiency.
